The verdict is in! Cressex pupils perform admirably in Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial

Eighteen Year 9 Cressex students had their day in court when they took part in a Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial recently at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court.

The students participated as lawyers for the prosecution and the defence, magistrates, court reporters and artists. They were described as a credit to the school, articulating and applying their legal knowledge expertly.

The event is part of a national scheme run in partnership by the Magistrates’ Association and the H M Courts and Tribunal Service which provides an exciting and hands-on opportunity for young people to learn about the English legal system.  The scheme is an excellent way for students to develop key transferable skills such team work, public speaking, analysis and developing a persuasive argument.

The Cressex team were excellently prepared by Mrs Saunders, Head of Citizenship, and also supported on the day by Head of Year 9, Miss Swaine and Headteacher, Mr Hood. They were watched, from the public gallery, by the current Mayor of High Wycombe, an ex Cressex pupil.
