At Cressex Community School students choose their GCSE/BTEC options in Year 8 as this gives them more time to develop an in-depth understanding of their subjects during Years 9, 10 and 11. In setting out the choices available to students, we ensure that they continue to study a broad, balanced and enriching curriculum.

We recognise that this important milestone comes relatively early on in our students’ secondary school journey, so to help them make the best decision possible, we provide an extensive programme of information, advice and support, including one to one consultations with staff. We are careful to provide a good insight into the nature of subjects students do not study in Year 7 and 8, such as Business Studies, Health and Social Care and Sociology. Our experience tells us that students generally remain happy with the choices they have made and are motivated to go on and do well in their external examinations.

The key dates for the options process each year are published well in advance. Questions about options should be addressed Mrs Hart, Key Stage Leader, via office@cressex.org .
