Summer School

In recent years, wherever possible, Cressex Community School has run a transition summer school. This is open to all Year 6 transition to Year 7 students.  Evaluations have shown that these are always beneficial in preparing students for secondary school as part of the overall transition “package” offered by the school.

On the 21st and 22nd August 2024, 40 incoming Year 7 students enjoyed two fun-packed days of Summer School.  All students moving from Year 6 to Year 7 were offered the opportunity to attend the Summer School to aid transition, make new friends and get to know the school before term starts.

This year, staff and student ambassadors ran workshops including designing and making bridges; a scavenger hunt; making paper flowers; painting tiles; and creating stunning outfits from only newspaper for a fashion show.

All the staff were very impressed with the students’ ability to work well in teams, communicate and negotiate with one another. There were smiling faces all round.

Well done to everyone who attended and helped at the Summer School! We are looking forward to welcoming all new Year 7’s in September.
