Headteacher's Message to Parents and Carers, 9th June 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have arrived in the last half term of another rather strange year. Thank you for your continuing support!

Please read the following carefully as it contains some important messages.

1)      COVID-19/Coronavirus

COVID-19 has not gone away and indeed there is some evidence of an increase in infections, including of the Delta (Indian) variant. This means that we need to keep our defences up and continue to do all we can to prevent the school being a source of any spread of infection. So please:

a)      Ensure that your child/children keep taking the lateral flow tests twice a week. If a child tests positive, you must let us know and keep them at home, along with any siblings who attend school, until they have also had a PCR test at a test centre.

b)      Do not send your child to school if they are showing any Coronavirus symptoms.

c)       Do not send your child to school if someone else in the family is showing Coronavirus symptoms and/or has tested positive

d)      Remind your child to bring a face mask to school every day and wear it in areas where social distancing cannot be maintained (unless they are unable to wear a mask for any reason)

e)      Remind your child to keep washing their hands thoroughly and regularly

f)       Stay in touch us about any of the above

For your further information, here is an extract from an email all Buckinghamshire schools received on Monday this week from the local lead for Public Health England. It emphasises the need for families to act immediately if there is a chance that any family member has caught Coronavirus.

(Referring to the Delta (Indian) variant)

Perhaps most importantly with a more easily transmissible variant - immediate self-isolation by the entire household when any person in the house develops possible COVID-19 symptoms or gets a positive LFD result must be strongly emphasised.  There is some evidence that the Delta variant has a shorter incubation period (that is, people may become infectious more quickly after being infected), so if household members wait for PCR confirmation before self-isolating then they could already have unknowingly passed the infection on to non-household contacts and thereby turned a cluster into an outbreak.

2)      Parents’ Evenings

We will be running “remote” parents evenings later in the term as follows:

Year 10: 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 July. These will be subject focused.

Years 7-9: 4pm to 7pm  on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 July. These will be conducted with form tutors

More information on how this will work will be sent in due course.

3)      Lockers

As we are not currently able to use student lockers we will be organising refunds. The method of the refund will be depend on the way that the fee was initially paid. In order to receive a refund, students will need to return their locker keys to school.

Detailed information on the process will follow.

4)      Year 11 Leavers’ Video

Thanks to Mr Ferguson for Oscar-worthy directing, producing and camera work, we have an excellent leavers’ video to share. Mr Taylor will send this out to students very soon.

5)      Staff Farewells

Mr S Ahmed, Cover Supervisor and DT teacher, and

Mrs J Scowcroft, Receptionist, have both retired following many years’ very valuable service to Cressex.

Mrs I Shahzad, Lettings Officer, has left to follow a training course

Miss M Doyle, English Teacher, has returned to Australia.

We thank them all for their contributions to the school and wish them well for the future.

6)      Staff Welcomes

The following colleagues have recently joined the permanent staff of the school:

Mrs K King, Lettings Officer

Mrs S Gregory, Receptionist

We wish them a happy and successful time at Cressex.

7)      Used School Uniform

If you have any items of the school uniform, that are in good condition and that you no longer need, we would be very grateful to receive them. Please simply hand them in to reception.

Yours sincerely,

David Hood
