Cressex Girls Impress England Ladies Football Stars

International players Fran Kirby and Gemma Davison came in to Cressex Community School on Thursday 26th May to promote the England versus Serbia Ladies Football game. Over twenty girls across years 7 to 9 took part in a training session with the two internationals, providing them with the opportunity to showcase their talent, ask the players questions and get their autographs.

Aaliyah Charles particularly impressed the stars and was quoted on the FA England Ladies website; “I loved playing football in front of Gemma and Fran and showing them some skills and what we’re capable of. It was great to be able to ask them questions and find out how they became footballers and what it is like for them.  I love playing football, I have training tonight and I can’t wait to get there after today.”

Nine excited Cressex girls then attended the Serbia game on Saturday 4th June at Adams Park. Anya Anderson, Shannon Hire and Maryam Aziz took on the various challenges in the fan zone and watched the players sing their national anthems. Rhiannon Free-Fox, Sarune Oganauskaite, Alex Bakucz, Iqra Hussain, Aaliyah Charles and Mirusha Thillainathan were honoured to carry the flags for England and Serbia and then acted as ‘ball girls’ for the match. And the result? An amazing 7-0 win for England Ladies and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
